A 4.1 magnitude earthquake hit the maritime area between the Greek islands of Santorini and Amorgos on Friday, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute.
The earthquake, which occurred just before 6 AM, had its epicenter located 14 kilometers southwest of the village of Arkesini on Amorgos Island, at a depth of 15 kilometers.
There have been no reports of casualties or damage.
This marks the first earthquake of this magnitude since seismic activity in the area of the popular tourist destination began to subside.
It’s important to note that Santorini and Amorgos experienced several weeks of frequent small earthquakes in January and February, with some reaching magnitudes above 5. Emergency services were deployed during that time, and schools were closed due to the ongoing tremors.
