The U.S. Department of Defense may soon provide Elon Musk with classified details regarding potential military strategies against China, according to The New York Times.
Two officials have revealed that Musk, a billionaire businessman and former advisor to Donald Trump, is expected to be briefed on sensitive information, including a list of possible Chinese targets and recommendations on the timing of military actions.
As the head of Tesla, a company deeply involved with the Chinese market, and SpaceX, which manages key defense contracts, Musk is positioned at the intersection of business and national security. Moreover, Musk also oversees the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to streamline government operations and reduce administrative costs.
The Pentagon has not confirmed whether this involves direct access to military plans. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said a meeting with Musk is planned, but clarified that “no secret military plans will be discussed.” Meanwhile, President Donald Trump quickly distanced himself from the issue, stating that “China will not even be mentioned.”
“I look forward to the criminal prosecution of those who leaked false information to the New York Times,” Musk wrote in a statement today.
