Teenagers in Düsseldorf sentenced to prison for preparing a terrorist attack

A district court in Düsseldorf sentenced three teenagers, including two girls (16 and 17 years old) and a 16-year-old boy, to three years in prison for preparing a terrorist attack with the intent to commit murder and arson.

The teenagers planned to target a church, a synagogue, and police stations. Their actions were motivated by radicalization through ISIS propaganda on social media.

According to the investigation, last year, during Ramadan, the teens from the town of Ostfildern decided to carry out an attack, choosing police stations, train stations, and court buildings in several cities across Germany, including Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne, and Stuttgart, as targets. They planned to set fire to these locations using Molotov cocktails and use firearms and bladed weapons to kill as many people as possible.

One of the accused found bomb-making instructions online, but before they could execute their plans, the teenagers were arrested by the police. All three have been in custody since March of last year. The defense lawyer of the convicted stated that they intend to appeal the verdict.
