Czech Republic to launch crisis survival guide inspired by Finnish model

The Czech Republic is set to prepare citizens for crisis situations with new instructions. This year, the Czech Ministry of the Interior will present a brochure with advice on how to behave during a crisis and how to prepare for it, based on a Finnish model.

In an interview with Novinky, Interior Minister Vít Rakušan stated that his ministry is adapting the Finnish concept of “72 hours,” which includes survival instructions for the first three days of a crisis. The adaptation involves an “informational brochure and a comprehensive campaign aimed at preparing the population for crisis situations,” he added, noting that the project should be completed “by the end of this summer.”

Rakušan explained that a study conducted after last year’s floods revealed that 76% of people want the government to better prepare citizens for emergencies, and 70% would like more specific information on disaster preparedness. He pointed out that such a tradition has long been established in Scandinavian countries, and now they are adapting it for the Czech Republic.

Last year, Norway, Sweden, and Finland updated their instructions for the population in case of conflict or other crisis situations, which these countries have published since World War II.
