EU staff have raised their salaries again: seventh increase in three years

Starting in April, around 66,000 employees of European institutions will receive another salary increase. This marks the seventh raise since the beginning of 2022. This time, they will receive an additional 1.2% increase for 2024, on top of the 7.3% already paid out.

The minimum base salary for “Eurocrats” will also increase — rising from €3,361 to €3,645. The maximum salary will grow from €23,262 to €25,229.

Members of the European Commission will also see a raise. The base salary of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will increase by more than €2,700, reaching around €34,800 per month. Other commissioners will earn approximately €28,400 — €2,200 more than before.

EU officials’ salaries are calculated using a non-transparent formula that takes into account inflation in Brussels and Luxembourg, as well as the salary dynamics in the public services of EU member states. Typically, salary increases occur once a year, but due to high inflation in recent years, raises have been happening every six months.
