U.S. and Russia to discuss truce and renewed grain deal at talks in Saudi Arabia

Russia and the United States intend to discuss ceasefire issues and prospects for long-term peace during negotiations taking place in Saudi Arabia. This was announced by U.S. National Security Advisor to President Donald Trump, Mike Waltz.

According to him, the parties plan to examine mechanisms for verifying the cessation of hostilities in the event of a ceasefire agreement. Additionally, discussions will cover the cessation of military actions in the Black Sea region, as well as trade in grain and fuel.

Moscow and Washington also plan to address the issue of peacekeepers and territorial settlement. U.S. Special Representative Steven Witkoff expressed hope that the negotiations would bring “real progress” on the issue of a ceasefire in the Black Sea.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin confirmed that one of the key topics of discussion will be the possible resumption of the “grain deal.” Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russian side is ready to discuss this issue in detail, as “there are a great number of nuances surrounding it.”

Russia withdrew from the deal in 2023, accusing the West of failing to fulfill its commitments, particularly regarding the lifting of sanctions on Russian fertilizers. It is possible that during the upcoming negotiations, Moscow will link a new version of the deal to the easing of sanctions.

Earlier, negotiations between the United States and Ukraine began in Saudi Arabia.
