In the UK, a record number of migrants have arrived across the English Channel since the beginning of the year.
Preliminary data from the British Home Office reveals that 5,847 migrants were registered in the UK in the first three months of 2025, surpassing the total for the same period last year, which had previously set a record.
This current figure represents a 59% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when 3,683 migrants arrived. Migration across the Channel, which separates the British Isles from continental Europe, has become one of the most controversial issues in recent years, as migrants often face dangerous conditions, relying on smugglers to cross the channel in small boats, leading to many fatalities.
