U.S. explores possibility of lifting sanctions on Russia in exchange for moratorium on strikes in the Black Sea

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Washington is reviewing Russia’s proposals for sanction relief as a condition for implementing a moratorium on strikes in the Black Sea.

We are studying them, and right now we are considering all of them. There are about five or six conditions. We are reviewing them all, Trump said in the Oval Office while answering journalists’ questions.

Earlier, Russia stated that it would agree to halt strikes in the Black Sea only if sanctions against Russian agricultural exports were lifted. According to Trump, third-party countries are involved in the negotiation process and are actively facilitating the agreement.

The U.S. president also reported significant progress in negotiations between the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine, which are taking place in Saudi Arabia. “Significant progress has been made,” Trump said, noting that discussions with both sides are ongoing.
