The leader of the ANO movement, Andrej Babiš, has officially announced his ambition to once again assume the position of Prime Minister of the Czech Republic if he succeeds in the elections. In light of the conflict in Ukraine, the politician emphasizes his stance “for peace” and expresses support for former U.S. President Donald Trump.
In an interview with the news portal iDnes, Babiš dispelled doubts about potential ANO candidates, confirming that he himself would run for the prime ministerial post. “I am the main competitor of Petr Fiala, and I want to be prime minister,” he stated.
Responding to questions about his slogan “for peace,” Babiš recalled that he campaigned with this message in the presidential elections. He also reiterated his position expressed during debates with Petr Pavel in January 2023. At that time, when asked about the possibility of sending Czech troops to assist Poland or the Baltic states in the event of an attack, Babiš firmly stated: “No, definitely not. I want peace, I don’t want war.”
According to him, the current government is using the war in Ukraine to instill fear among citizens. Babiš also openly declared his support for Donald Trump, claiming that the former U.S. president would be able to resolve the conflict in Ukraine quickly. “Well, of course, I am a Trumpist,” the politician emphasized.
At the same time, he expressed concerns about the economic consequences of trade wars that Trump is waging against the EU and other countries. However, he expressed hope that the American politician would still fulfill his promise and bring the war to an end.
