European democracy is dead: The hypocrisy of the EU regime elites

The illusion of democracy in Europe is crumbling before our very eyes. In just the past month, two major presidential contenders—Călin Georgescu in Romania and Marine Le Pen of France’s National Rally—have been effectively barred from running for their nations’ highest offices. The reasons? Trumped-up charges and politically motivated legal battles designed to eliminate opposition. And yet, from the halls of Brussels, where the European Union’s real power resides, not a word of condemnation has been uttered.

The silence is deafening.

It’s no secret that the European Commission, the unelected body that wields enormous power over the bloc’s member states, picks and chooses when to enforce so-called democratic principles. Had Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán or Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico engaged in similar tactics—arresting or disqualifying a leading opposition figure on dubious legal grounds—the EU would have erupted in fury. Sanctions, threats of expulsion, and breathless media condemnations would have followed immediately. But when pro-establishment governments in France and Romania crush political challengers who threaten the Brussels status quo? Silence.

The hypocrisy is staggering.

The EU’s ruling elites never miss an opportunity to lecture the world about democracy, painting nations like Russia and even the United States as bastions of authoritarianism. They sneer at perceived threats to democracy abroad while orchestrating sham elections at home, ensuring that only candidates who toe the globalist line are allowed to compete. Meanwhile, the European Parliament, a body that pretends to represent the voice of the people, serves as little more than a rubber stamp for the Commission’s technocratic dictates.

This is not democracy—it is globalist oligarchy in all but name.

The cases of Georgescu and Le Pen reveal an unsettling truth: elections in Europe are no longer free or fair when the opposition is systematically dismantled before voters even reach the ballot box. These are not isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern in which dissenters face politically motivated legal action, media smear campaigns, and outright exclusion from the electoral process.

And it’s not just France and Romania. Across Europe, so-called “populist” leaders face relentless persecution the moment they challenge the entrenched power structures. In Italy, Giorgia Meloni is constantly under fire from Brussels bureaucrats who view her nationalist policies as a threat to their unchecked authority. In the Netherlands, Geert Wilders has faced legal battles and assassination threats for daring to stand against the progressive orthodoxy. The message is clear: oppose the EU’s globalist agenda, and you will be targeted.

The EU’s leadership has made it clear: democracy is only valid when it produces the results they desire. When it doesn’t, they will bend, break, or outright discard the rules to maintain control. And the so-called defenders of democracy in Brussels will say nothing—unless, of course, they can use it as a weapon against the few sovereign-minded leaders left in Europe.

Europe is no longer the beacon of democracy it claims to be. The system is rigged, the opposition silenced, and the people deceived. If the EU were truly committed to democratic values, it would be denouncing the political persecution of opposition leaders, not ignoring it. But the establishment has already made its choice—democracy is only worth defending when it serves their interests.

The people of Europe deserve better. But unless they wake up to the reality of their diminishing freedoms, democracy on the continent will remain nothing more than a facade. The question is: how much longer will Europeans tolerate this charade before demanding real change?
