U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to impose reciprocal tariffs on all countries, with an official announcement scheduled for April 2.
According to Bloomberg, Trump referred to the upcoming Wednesday as “Liberation Day,” emphasizing that the introduction of tariffs would bring jobs back to the U.S. and add trillions of dollars to the federal budget.
He has already increased tariffs on steel, aluminum, automobiles, and all imports from China. Now, his initiative will apply to all countries without exception.
This will start with all countries, so we’ll see what happens. I haven’t heard anything about the 10 or 15 countries people are talking about, Trump said.
The U.S. administration has yet to clarify the specifics of the new tariff plan, including how the duties will be calculated and what conditions might be required for exemptions. However, Trump stated that the tariffs would take into account trade barriers imposed by other nations, without providing details on how this would be assessed.
According to the president, the new tariff policy will serve as a key tool for restoring balance in global trade and strengthening the U.S. industrial sector.
The White House has indicated that reciprocal tariffs could become a starting point for future negotiations, pressuring other countries to make concessions. However, Trump himself has made it clear that exemptions will be minimal.
