Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that Belgrade and Budapest are on the path to forming a military alliance. According to him, defense cooperation between the two countries is one of the key aspects of their strategic partnership.
Vučić emphasized that Serbia has the most active and significant military cooperation in the region with Hungary. The main areas of collaboration include joint military exercises, technical cooperation, and arms acquisitions.
For 2025, the Defense Ministries of Serbia and Hungary have planned 79 joint activities, a record number compared to 48 in 2023.
This agreement on joint activities will lead to further rapprochement between our countries toward forming a military alliance or union, Vučić stated.
Hungarian Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky arrived in Serbia and, together with his Serbian counterpart Bratislav Gašić, signed a bilateral military cooperation plan for 2025, as well as a document on strategic defense partnership.
The head of the Serbian parliamentary committee on the diaspora, Dragan Stanojević, stated that Slovakia might also join the alliance. He noted that Belgrade sees this step as a response to the recent cooperation agreement between Croatia, Albania, and the self-proclaimed Kosovo.
