Possible terrorist motive identified in Amsterdam attack suspect

A Ukrainian citizen who attacked pedestrians with a knife in Amsterdam on March 27, injuring five people, is suspected of attempted murder with a possible terrorist intent.

According to the Dutch prosecution, citing Reuters, the suspect has been charged with five counts of attempted murder or manslaughter with potential terrorist motives.

The victims include two elderly Americans, a 26-year-old Polish citizen, a 73-year-old Belgian woman, and a 19-year-old Dutch woman. One of the injured was discharged from the hospital on March 28, while the others remain in stable condition.

The attack took place near Dam Square. The suspect, a 30-year-old man from Ukraine, was apprehended thanks to a British tourist who tackled him to the ground and restrained him until police arrived.

The mayor of Amsterdam praised the bravery of the British tourist and awarded him for his heroic act, noting that he chose to remain anonymous.
