U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who is leading negotiations on Ukraine’s natural resources, has announced an upcoming visit by a delegation from Kyiv to Washington.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Bessent stated that the visit will take place as part of talks on a minerals agreement. He emphasized that the U.S. is eager to accelerate the process, as it considers the agreement “extremely important” for both Americans and Ukrainians, as well as for the peace process.
Earlier, on April 1, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha confirmed that Kyiv is consulting with Washington to finalize a “mutually acceptable text” of the agreement.
On March 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine had received a new version of the agreement from the United States. He also stressed that Kyiv is not prepared to recognize past U.S. financial aid as sovereign debt.
Meanwhile, over the weekend, U.S. President Donald Trump warned Zelensky of “serious consequences” if Ukraine refuses to sign the resource agreement.
