Netanyahu plans a visit to Trump on April 7 to discuss new tariffs

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit Washington on Monday, April 7, according to Axios, citing four informed sources.

If the trip goes ahead as planned, Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump after the introduction of new tariffs. The main topic of the talks will be the possible cancellation of these tariffs.

It is also expected that the leaders will discuss the Iranian nuclear program and the conflict in Gaza.

However, Netanyahu’s visit remains in question due to ongoing legal proceedings in his corruption case. He will need to request a postponement of hearings, during which he is expected to continue giving testimony. Sources indicate that due to this, the visit may be rescheduled.

Initially, the visit was planned for a later date, possibly during the Passover holiday, which begins on April 14. However, during discussions between the Trump administration and Netanyahu’s office on April 4, the idea of an earlier visit started to take shape.

On April 3, U.S. President Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on imports from all countries. In response, Israel had previously lifted tariffs on American goods in an attempt to avoid retaliatory measures. However, the U.S. still imposed 17% tariffs on Israeli products.

On April 4, Trump stated that Netanyahu could come to Washington as early as next week.
