Meloni plans U.S. visit to discuss tariffs with Trump

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is expected to visit the United States on April 16-17 to discuss tariff policies with President Donald Trump, according to the Italian newspaper Il Foglio.

While the visit date has not yet been officially confirmed, Italian diplomatic efforts are underway to make it happen as soon as possible.

Following Meloni’s potential visit, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is scheduled to visit Italy from April 18 to 20.

This trip would mark Meloni’s first visit to the White House since Trump began his second term. She had previously traveled to Washington for Trump’s inauguration in January and visited the Mar-a-Lago estate earlier.

Meloni has expressed her belief that European countries affected by U.S. tariffs should negotiate their removal rather than resorting to retaliatory tariffs.
