Germany to launch week-long speed control campaign starting April 9

Germany will intensify speed checks across almost all roads starting April 9, aiming to enhance safety, especially on high-risk routes and near schools and construction sites.

This “speed camera marathon,” which will last for one week, will cover 14 of Germany’s 16 federal states, with Saarland and Berlin being the only exceptions. The Ministry of the Interior revealed that in Bavaria alone, speed will be monitored at 1,500 locations throughout the week.

In 2024, 2,780 people were killed in traffic accidents in Germany, with speeding violations being a major contributor to these fatalities. The Federal Motor Transport Authority reported that men are more likely to exceed speed limits than women, with approximately 1.9 million violations by men compared to 550,000 by women in 2023. People aged 25 to 44 are more frequently involved in speeding violations across both genders.
