Kanlaon volcano, one of the country’s largest volcanoes, has begun erupting in the Philippines

Kanlaon Volcano, located on the island of Negros in the central Philippines, has once again become active.

According to the South China Morning Post, it has spewed a column of ash and smoke into the atmosphere, reaching a height of approximately 4,000 meters.

The area around the volcano is currently under Alert Level 3, indicating a high risk of further eruptions, including the possible release of lava. Experts are closely monitoring the situation and note that the alert level may change in the near future, depending on how quickly magma is moving toward the surface.

Kanlaon stands at 2,465 meters above sea level. Its eruption in December of last year already forced the evacuation of residents from nearby villages.

The Philippines is part of the Pacific “Ring of Fire” — a region known for its intense volcanic and seismic activity, where eruptions and earthquakes are common.
