Next week, the Hungarian government will begin distributing ballots as part of a national consultation aimed at gathering citizens’ opinions on Ukraine’s potential membership in the European Union.
This was announced by the head of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s office, Gergely Gulyás, during a briefing, according to Telex. Gulyás stated that the Hungarian government still does not support Ukraine’s EU membership. He presented a sample of the ballot and clarified that it will contain a single main question: “Do you support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union?”
The Hungarian government representative pointed out that Ukraine’s membership could entail risks, particularly in agricultural and economic sectors. He emphasized the importance of ensuring Hungary’s voice is heard in the broader European discussion.
On March 5, Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced the national survey on this issue.
