Roof collapse at Dominican Republic nightclub kills at least 218

A devastating incident in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, has left at least 218 people dead after the roof of the popular nightclub “Jet-Set” collapsed.

The venue, which was hosting between 500 and 1,000 people at the time, was overwhelmed as tons of concrete and steel debris fell onto the crowd. The cause of the tragic accident remains under investigation.

Among the victims were two former Major League Baseball players, Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco, both of whom had ties to the American League.

In the aftermath, over 300 emergency responders worked tirelessly over two days to rescue survivors and recover bodies. Despite the extensive efforts, more than 150 individuals remain hospitalized due to their injuries.
