Trump: TikTok deal still possible despite pause

Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that a potential agreement to transfer TikTok’s U.S. assets to American companies remains on the table.

He made this statement to reporters in the Oval Office, according to Reuters.

We have an agreement with very good people, very rich companies, who would do everything at a high level. But we need to wait and see how things develop with China. It’s very much on the table, Trump emphasized.

It is worth noting that the plan involves creating a separate company for TikTok’s U.S. operations, which would be based in the U.S. and primarily controlled by American investors. According to Reuters, implementing the deal requires resolving trade disputes between Washington and Beijing.

Earlier, Trump extended the deadline for the Chinese company ByteDance to sell TikTok’s U.S. assets. Otherwise, the app, used by about 170 million Americans, could be blocked in the U.S. The president had already postponed the implementation of the ban twice, which was initially set for January.

The parties are continuing to work on the agreement ahead of the final deadline—June 19.
