In preparation for the upcoming Jewish holiday of Passover, the Israeli military has raised the state of combat readiness across the country.
The decision, made following an assessment of the current security situation by Chief of Staff Major General Herzi Halevi, includes plans to increase military presence in various regions of Israel.
Passover, one of the most significant holidays in Judaism, begins on the evening of Saturday and will continue until April 20. During this period, Israel observes two weeks of school holidays, with many citizens taking the opportunity to travel and visit family and friends.
Emphasizing the need for “readiness and vigilance,” General Halevi stressed the continued importance of strengthening security measures across the country.
The holiday of Passover commemorates the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt and their liberation from slavery, often referred to as the holiday of freedom. In the lead-up to Passover this year, there is an intensified focus on the Israeli hostages still held by Islamist groups in the Gaza Strip. Currently, 59 individuals are being held, with 24 believed to still be alive.
