Trump proposes ambitious plan to deport one million migrants in a year

President Donald Trump is pushing for a plan that would deport up to one million migrants in a single year, aiming to set a new record for mass deportation in U.S. history.

If successful, this would far exceed the Obama-era figure of 400,000 deportations per year, as reported by The Washington Post, citing federal officials.

However, analysts are skeptical about the practicality of such a goal, given the limitations of funding, personnel, and the legal right of migrants to challenge deportations in court. Legal battles could potentially drag on for years, according to The Washington Post.

The strategy is being crafted by Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy at the White House, according to sources. One option under consideration includes the deportation of some of the 1.4 million migrants with final deportation orders who remain in the U.S. because their home countries have refused to accept them. Washington is currently negotiating with 30 countries to secure the deportation of non-citizens back to their countries of origin.

The Trump administration has stopped releasing detailed deportation statistics. However, the Department of Homeland Security has reported that 117,000 people have been deported from the U.S. since the start of the year, according to The Washington Post.
