A newly emerged radical group calling itself “Revolutionary Class Struggle” has claimed responsibility for a bomb explosion near the offices of Hellenic Train — Greece’s main railway operator — as well as for planting another explosive device near the Ministry of Labor in early February, according to the Associated Press.
The incident occurred on Friday evening. The explosion caused minor damage and no injuries were reported. The perpetrators had alerted two local media outlets approximately 40 minutes before the blast.
In a statement published on Sunday on the website Athens.indymedia.org, the group described their actions as part of an armed resistance against the state. The message also expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and mentioned Kyriakos Xymitiris, a man who died last year while assembling an explosive device in an Athens apartment.
The statement comes amid ongoing public outrage over the 2023 railway disaster, which claimed 57 lives. The group linked the tragedy to what they called the “murder of the proletariat,” blaming the capitalist system for the deadly incident.
