President Donald Trump has been deemed in top cognitive and physical condition following his first annual medical exam of his second term, according to a statement from the White House. The nearly five-hour evaluation took place Friday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
The report, released Sunday, noted that the 78-year-old president continues to maintain “robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function.” Trump is the oldest person to begin a presidential term, though his predecessor Joe Biden was older at 82 when he left office.
“President Trump remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function,” his doctor, Captain Sean Barbabella, said in a memo.
The examination also documented a scar on Trump’s right ear, a result of the assassination attempt that occurred at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July. At the time, doctors said the bullet had only grazed him.
As part of the comprehensive assessment, Trump underwent blood tests, ultrasounds, a cardiac evaluation, and neurological screenings. Dr. Barbabella—a U.S. Navy emergency physician who served in Iraq and Afghanistan—highlighted Trump’s consistent activity levels as a major contributor to his well-being.
“His active lifestyle continues to contribute significantly to his well-being,” Dr Barbabella wrote in the memo released by the White House on Sunday.
“President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”
Mental health screenings revealed no signs of depression or anxiety. Trump also took the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a tool used to evaluate memory and cognition, and scored a perfect 30 out of 30.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump said he “got every answer right” on the cognitive test.
“Overall, I felt I was in very good shape,” Trump said. “A good heart, a good soul, a very good soul.”
He also mentioned that doctors gave him “a little bit” of advice regarding lifestyle adjustments, though he didn’t elaborate.
The medical memo listed several medications Trump currently takes, including Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe for cholesterol, Aspirin for cardiac health, and Mometasone cream for a skin condition. Minor sun damage and benign skin lesions were also noted.
Cardiac testing showed no abnormalities, and Trump’s history of “well-controlled hypercholesterolemia” was acknowledged. Other past conditions include a Covid infection, rosacea, and a benign colon polyp.
The president currently weighs 224 pounds (101 kg) and stands 6 feet 2.5 inches tall. According to BMI guidelines, this places him in the overweight category, though not obese. His weight is down from 243 pounds recorded in 2019.
According to Dr. Barbabella, Trump’s joints and muscles show a full range of motion, and his active schedule, including frequent participation in golf tournaments, is cited as a reason for his continued good health.
This report marks the first public medical update since last summer’s shooting incident, in which Trump sustained only superficial injuries, as confirmed by then-White House doctor Ronny Jackson.
During his presidency, Trump has often emphasized the importance of cognitive sharpness and frequently questioned the health of his political opponents. After a widely criticized debate performance against Trump last year, Biden declined to take a cognitive test, stating that he had not undergone one while in office.
