Man in Germany fined 4,500 euros for hugging Chancellor Scholz

A German resident has been fined €4,500 and had his driver’s license revoked following an incident involving Chancellor Olaf Scholz in May 2023, according to the DPA news agency.

According to the court in Frankfurt am Main, the man—under the influence of drugs at the time—managed to bypass security by driving his car into Scholz’s motorcade at an airport. He then exited the vehicle, approached the Chancellor, shook his hand, and hugged him before being detained by security.

On Tuesday, the district court found the man guilty of traffic violations and unlawful intrusion. He was fined €4,500 (approximately $5,100 USD) and had his driving privileges revoked for two and a half years.

During the court hearing, the defendant apologized for his actions.
