Sweden finds no evidence of intentional cable damage by Chinese ship in Baltic Sea

Swedish investigators have found no conclusive evidence that a Chinese vessel deliberately damaged two underwater cables in the Baltic Sea, the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority reported on April 15, citing Reuters.

The case involves the vessel Yi Peng 3, which is under investigation following an incident that occurred on November 17–18, 2024, in Sweden’s exclusive economic zone. It is suspected that the ship may have damaged two fiber-optic cables with its anchor — one connecting Finland and Germany, the other linking Sweden and Lithuania.

According to prosecutor Henrik Söderman, the investigation is ongoing, but no further details have been disclosed at this time. After Chinese authorities granted permission for investigative actions on board, Yi Peng 3 departed the area.
