Finnish television showed previously unreleased footage of the assassination attempt on Robert Fico

Finland’s national broadcaster Yle has released a 50-minute documentary about Slovakia, featuring previously unseen footage of the assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. The incident took place in May last year in the town of Handlová.

The video, filmed by a camerawoman from the regional television station in Prievidza, shows the attacker, Juraj Cintula, pointing a gun at Fico and opening fire. The footage also captures what followed — security personnel quickly evacuating the wounded prime minister and placing him into a limousine.

The attack on Robert Fico occurred on May 15, 2024, following an off-site government meeting. At the time, his condition raised serious concerns. It was later confirmed that the shooter was 71-year-old Juraj Cintula. During interrogation, he claimed he did not intend to kill Fico, but rather to injure him in order to prevent the continuation of his political agenda, particularly with regard to the war in Ukraine.
