Man dies attempting to cross the English Channel, investigation underway

UK police have confirmed the death of a man who was attempting to cross the English Channel on April 18.

On Friday morning, a UK Border Force patrol spotted a small boat carrying migrants attempting the dangerous crossing. A rescue boat was immediately dispatched to assist the passengers.

According to Kent Police, they were called just 10 minutes after the Border Force helped the migrants. Authorities later confirmed that the man was declared dead.

“Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the man’s death,” stated British authorities, specifying that the investigation is taking place in Dover.

Migration attempts across the English Channel, which separates the British Isles from mainland Europe, have surged in recent years, setting new records.
