The United States is seeking to establish a full ceasefire in Ukraine within the next few weeks, Bloomberg reports, citing informed sources.
According to the outlet, these plans were presented by American representatives during a closed-door meeting with their European counterparts held in Paris on Thursday.
During the negotiations, participants discussed potential steps necessary for de-escalating the conflict and transitioning toward lasting peace in the region. According to a Bloomberg source, the U.S. delegation emphasized the urgency of an immediate halt to hostilities in order to lay the groundwork for further diplomatic progress.
Thursday’s discussions focused primarily on how to move toward a ceasefire and lasting peace as quickly as possible. Participants informed U.S. officials that they fully support President Donald Trump’s main objective — a swift end to the war, the source familiar with the details of the meeting said.
As noted by the agency, Washington believes that prolonging the conflict will only worsen the humanitarian crisis and pose a threat to European stability. In addition, the new American administration views resolving the war in Ukraine as one of its top foreign policy challenges, requiring urgent attention and action.
European partners, in turn, expressed their readiness to support the U.S. initiative while stressing the importance of involving all parties to the conflict — including Russia and Ukraine — as well as international organizations such as the UN and OSCE.
A series of high-level diplomatic engagements is expected to begin in the coming weeks, aimed at developing the framework and mechanisms necessary to implement a potential ceasefire.
