Ukraine and the United States have signed a memorandum of intent to conclude an agreement in the field of mineral resources.
This was announced by Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Yuliia Svyrydenko. According to her, the next step is to finalize the agreement text and proceed with its signing.
U.S. President Donald Trump expects the final document to be signed next Thursday. Thus, the current memorandum is not the agreement itself, but rather a declaration of intent to sign it.
According to available information, the signed memorandum largely mirrors a preliminary draft that was planned for approval during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington on February 28. That signing was reportedly disrupted due to an incident in the Oval Office.
Experts suggest several possible reasons for signing the memorandum now — including the desire to demonstrate progress amid international talks in Paris, or complications in finalizing the full agreement, prompting the parties to record at least an interim result.
