In Heraklion, the largest city on the island of Crete, police have arrested three teenagers suspected of planning explosions ahead of Easter celebrations.
According to ERT, the suspects — two brothers aged 16 and 17.5, and their 18-year-old friend — allegedly intended to detonate homemade incendiary bottles and fireworks near a church.
Police stopped the teenagers for a routine check while they were driving, reportedly on their way to the church where they planned to carry out the act.
During the vehicle inspection, officers discovered eight plastic bottles filled with gasoline, each rigged with large firecrackers, as well as 22 fireworks of various types.
The teenagers are facing charges for violating laws related to explosives and pyrotechnics. Additionally, the 44-year-old father of the two underage brothers was arrested for failing to properly supervise his children.
