Orban and Austrian parliament speaker discuss risks of Ukraine’s EU membership

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban met with Walter Rosenkranz, the Speaker of the Austrian National Council and a representative of the right-wing Freedom Party, to discuss the potential “risks” of Ukraine joining the European Union.

Orban shared details of the meeting through a post on the social media platform X.

Confirming the meeting took place in Budapest on Tuesday, the Hungarian Prime Minister noted that their conversation extended beyond just bilateral matters.

“Besides discussing key bilateral issues, we focused on the serious risks posed by Ukraine’s EU accession – particularly to our security, economies, and agriculture,” Orban stated.

Rosenkranz, who made history as the first right-wing Speaker of the Austrian National Council, had hosted Orban as his first guest immediately following his election in late October.
