On the first working day after the Easter holidays, 35 internet domains were blocked in the Czech Republic in a single day, all for the same reason—incorrect or missing ownership information.
The CZ.NIC Association, which manages Czech domains ending in .cz, enforces these blockages according to strict guidelines.
As of now, 725 domains have been blocked in the Czech Republic, with most of these domains under “quarantine until cancellation” due to errors in ownership data or the absence of a designated representative. It’s important to note that none of these domains are considered “dangerous”; they simply violate the established registration rules.
Domains are typically given a 30-day grace period, during which the owners are expected to correct their information. If they fail to do so, the domain will be removed from the registry and canceled, which results in it being taken off the blocked list. This process explains why the number of blocked domains can fluctuate throughout the day.
On Tuesday, 35 domains were added to the blocked list, including websites such as anvel.cz, apartmany-teplice.cz, dvere-vrata.cz, darky4u.cz, and velocity.cz.
Of the 725 blocked domains, several dozen were restricted by law enforcement or other government bodies. This is another legitimate reason for blocking domains.
Currently, the Czech Republic has only one domain flagged as “dangerous”—smart-fio.cz. This site was blocked after cybercriminals used it to attempt phishing attacks on customers of Fio Banka. The domain was taken down under Article 17 of the registration rules, which deals with cybersecurity violations.
In most cases, domains linked to fraudulent activities, such as phishing schemes, are blocked in this manner. The CZ.NIC website provides a regularly updated list of blocked domains, with updates occurring every hour as the number changes throughout the day.
