Czechia will once again start importing Russian gas in significant volumes through Slovakia, despite previous efforts and EU mandates to abandon energy resources from Russia.
Due to the high costs of all alternative options, the Ministry of Industry has been compelled to take this step. According to October data, 94% of the gas delivered to Czechia, formally purchased from Slovakia, was already of Russian origin.
About a year ago, Czechia had almost entirely ceased using Russian gas, relying instead on alternative supplies such as liquefied natural gas from the Netherlands and Norway.
As Germany introduces additional charges of up to €3.5 per megawatt-hour, supplies from Eastern Europe have become more economically advantageous, despite criticism from experts and EU partners.
