China has offered to organize a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, without the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing sources.
Beijing also expressed its readiness to support peacekeeping efforts in the event of a ceasefire, including the possibility of sending Chinese peacekeepers.
However, a source in the White House called the proposal “absolutely unfeasible.” According to WSJ, China is interested in such a mediation mission to restore contact with Trump, particularly due to the issue of tariffs.
European officials, speaking to The Wall Street Journal, expressed the opinion that China is interested in prolonging the war, which depletes the military resources of Europe and the United States. At the same time, they are concerned that Trump may make concessions for a favorable deal with China.
It is worth noting that Donald Trump has already announced plans to meet with Putin in Saudi Arabia.
