Severe winter weather has caused significant disruptions in Batumi, Georgia, with schools closing and public transportation coming to a standstill.
The western region of Georgia, particularly the Adjara mountains, has been hit by intense snowstorms for several days. Snowfall has reached up to one meter in the mountains, while Batumi has seen accumulations of up to 50 cm. Roads and sidewalks are being covered faster than they can be cleared.
As a result, all six municipalities in Adjara, including Batumi, have suspended school and kindergarten operations. Public buses in Batumi have stopped running, and some areas are facing issues with electricity, gas, and water supplies.
At Batumi Airport, eight flights were canceled, with some being rerouted to Kutaisi. Although trains between Tbilisi and Batumi are still operating, services to Ozurgeti and Kutaisi have been canceled.
