Violence erupted at Bagatelle metro station in Toulouse on Saturday evening when a brawl among three men escalated into a machete attack, leaving two injured and bystanders stunned.
Surveillance footage captured the chaos as one man suddenly pulled out a machete and struck the others. By the time police arrived, all three had fled, but officers recovered the bloodstained weapon and a discarded jacket at a nearby station.
An hour later, police got a tip from Purpan Hospital, where two men had arrived with knife wounds—one hit in the head, the other slashed on the hand. While one victim refused to cooperate, the other provided a statement, leading to a suspect’s brief arrest before authorities ruled him out.
The attack’s motive and the machete-wielding assailant’s identity remain unknown as the investigation continues.
Metro violence in France is on the rise. Just in January, a man was stabbed in the neck at Guillotière station in Lyon over a minor bump. The suspect is still at large.
