Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, emphasized that energy cooperation between Hungary and Slovakia is stronger than ever, despite ongoing challenges related to energy security from Brussels and Kyiv.
Speaking in Bratislava on Thursday, Szijjártó highlighted Slovakia’s purchase of over half a billion cubic meters of gas delivered via Hungary this year, underscoring the deepening energy ties between the two nations. He also pointed to an exemption from European Union sanctions, allowing Hungary to sell petroleum products refined from Russian crude in Bratislava. Additionally, he noted the steps both countries have taken to address negative discrimination against nuclear energy.
Szijjártó criticized the European Commission for failing to fulfill two out of four commitments on energy security and expressed outrage at the EU’s stance on Ukraine, accusing the executive body of prioritizing Ukraine’s interests over those of its member states.
