South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol walked out of Seoul detention center

The President of South Korea, Yoon Suk-yeol, was released from the Seoul Detention Center on March 8, 2025.

The prosecution carried out the court’s decision regarding his release. Upon leaving the facility, Yoon thanked the court for showing “courage and determination in correcting the lawlessness.” According to the Yonhap news agency, the president has already returned to his residence.

On December 14, the South Korean parliament declared impeachment against the president, and the following day, he was detained. On January 19, the court decided to take Yoon Suk-yeol into custody on charges of treason against the constitutional order, which could have led to a life sentence or the death penalty.
