Hamburg airport canceled all flights due to the strike

Hamburg Airport has announced the cancellation of all arrivals and departures on Sunday, March 9, due to an unexpected strike organized by the Ver.di union.

Without any prior warning, the Ver.di union called on Hamburg Airport services to immediately go on strike. For this reason, the airport is closed, and there will be no departures or arrivals throughout the day, the airport’s press service reported.

Earlier, the DPA news agency reported that more than 3,400 flights are expected to be canceled on March 11 due to planned strikes by employees at 11 airports across Germany. The strike will affect airports in Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt am Main, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Hanover, Bremen, Berlin Brandenburg, Leipzig/Halle, and Hamburg.

The Ver.di union is demanding higher wages and improved working conditions for employees. Similar strikes were already held at Munich and Hamburg airports in late February.
