German authorities conduct sweeping raids in terrorist organization probe across six states

On Wednesday morning, large-scale raids were carried out in six German states as part of an investigation into a suspected terrorist organization.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Karlsruhe confirmed 19 searches, conducted in Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, and Baden-Württemberg. Over 200 police officers and personnel from the Federal Criminal Police Office participated in the operation.

The raids are connected to the N’Hamedu brigade, an international radical group accused by investigators of attempting to overthrow the Eritrean government. The German branch of the group has reportedly been active since at least 2021. According to the prosecutor’s office, the group is linked to violent incidents at Eritrean festivals in Gießen and Stuttgart, with members allegedly considering the use of force against German police.

“There is suspicion that the N’Hamedu brigade is responsible for the escalation of violence, including numerous injured police officers,” the prosecutor’s office stated.

One individual detained after the Stuttgart riots has already been sentenced, and another group leader was recently convicted in the Netherlands for his involvement in similar riots in The Hague.
