The European Union will suspend the introduction of countermeasures to US tariffs for 90 days

The European Union is suspending the introduction of countermeasures in response to US tariffs for a period of 90 days.

This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who noted that the decision was made to allow more time for continued negotiations. In her message on X, she emphasized that the EU’s countermeasures had already received strong support from member states, but they will be postponed for three months.

Von der Leyen added that the EU is ready to continue working on these measures and hopes for successful negotiations. However, if the outcome of the negotiations is unsatisfactory, the countermeasures will be implemented. This step is part of the broader context of economic relations between the US and the European Union, which have faced significant tension in recent years due to trade tariffs and duties imposed by the administration of former US President Donald Trump.

The EU countermeasures were intended to respond to the tariffs, affecting key sectors of the economy, such as the aviation industry and manufacturing goods. It is expected that suspending the introduction of these measures will create additional space for a diplomatic resolution of the trade conflict.
