Jean Paul Gaultier, the iconic French fashion house, has officially named Dutch designer Duran Lantink as its permanent creative director, marking the end of the “collaborative era” that began after the brand’s founder stepped down in 2020.
Lantink, who will succeed a series of guest designers, expressed his admiration for Gaultier, calling him a “genius” and highlighting his role in breaking barriers for designers today. “To now step into the role of Creative Director is a true honour,” Lantink said in a statement.
The 37-year-old designer, known for his bold, sustainable approach to fashion, will debut his first ready-to-wear collection for Jean Paul Gaultier during Paris Fashion Week in September 2025. His haute couture collection will follow in January 2026.
Jean Paul Gaultier retired from runway shows in 2020, bringing an end to his groundbreaking career that spanned from 1976 and was defined by his irreverence and fearless fashion choices. Since Gaultier’s departure, the house embraced a rotating system of guest designers, including Chitose Abe, Olivier Rousteing, Haider Ackermann, and Ludovic de Saint-Sernin, each contributing their vision to the brand.
Lantink made a name for himself in 2018 with the creation of “vagina pants” worn by Janelle Monáe in her “Pynk” music video. His work, which focuses on sustainability through upcycled materials, has attracted attention from stars such as Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and Beyoncé.
