Biden requests additional $24 billion from Congress for Ukraine aid and U.S. arms replenishment

U.S. President Joe Biden has requested Congress to allocate an additional $24 billion for military aid to Ukraine and to replenish American weaponry supplied to Kyiv. This information was reported by Politico.

Two congressional aides confirmed the details of the White House proposal, stating that Congress received it on Monday.

According to the proposal, the new funding tranche for the Pentagon would be directed toward supplying weapons and equipment to Ukraine and restocking U.S. weaponry that has already been sent to Kyiv.

Of the requested amount, two-thirds—$16 billion—would go toward replenishing U.S. stockpiles. The remaining $8 billion would support the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, through which the Pentagon contracts American companies to provide arms for Ukraine’s defense forces.

The White House Office of Management and Budget has suggested Congress include the renewed aid in its upcoming resolution to prevent a government shutdown next month. Some Republicans have already criticized the White House’s request.

“Joe Biden just gave away 4.7 billion in your taxpayer dollars by unilaterally “forgiving” loans to Ukraine. Congress must not give him a free gift to further sabotage President Trump’s peace negotiations on the way out the door. Any Biden funding demands should be DOA.,” Senator Mike Lee wrote on social media platform X.
