On Friday, November 29, Romania’s Constitutional Court postponed its decision on the annulment of the first round of the presidential elections to next week.
The court announced that a ruling would be made on Monday, December 2. If the Constitutional Court decides to annul the results of the first round, the elections may be held again, as previously stated by Romania’s Central Electoral Commission.
The final decision will come a day after the parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday, December 1. The second round of the presidential elections is set to take place on December 8.
Earlier, the court ordered a recount of nearly 9.5 million votes cast in the first round, following a complaint from one of the candidates.
The presidential elections have sparked significant public interest in Romania. The first round was unexpectedly won by 62-year-old independent candidate Călin Georgescu, known for his anti-Western rhetoric, surprising many observers.
