Finnish police detained 41 people during demonstrations held on December 6, Finland’s Independence Day.
According to law enforcement, the detentions were primarily for violent resistance against officials and disobedience. The majority occurred at the Helsinki Without Nazis counter-demonstration.
Most of those detained were released later that evening or overnight, with the remainder freed today.
Police are also investigating an incident in which an attempt was made to seize an officer’s service weapon.
Three major demonstrations took place in Helsinki on Independence Day: the Awakening of Finland protest, the 612 Torchlight Procession, and the counter-demonstration Helsinki Without Nazis.
