The Netherlands will allocate €4.5 million to combat antisemitism following an attack on Israeli football fans who came to attend a match last week.
During parliamentary debates on the riots in Amsterdam, Dutch Minister of Justice and Security, David van Wils, stated that the country “intends to take this seriously.” The €4.5 million will be used to implement actions from a strategy to be presented on Friday. Of this amount, €2.2 million will be allocated for the protection of Jewish institutions, including schools.
The minister emphasized that these measures are part of a comprehensive “strategy to fight antisemitism” that is currently being developed. Van Wils also noted that the attack on Israeli fans in Amsterdam highlights the need for such a strategy.
On Monday evening, police arrested several individuals after a tram in a square in western Amsterdam caught fire, likely due to fireworks being thrown at it.
