As a result of fireworks usage during New Year celebrations in Georgia, 40 people were hospitalized with various injuries.
This was reported by Interpressnews, citing the Emergency Coordination and Assistance Center. In Tbilisi, emergency services received 33 calls related to fireworks incidents, with 20 of the injured requiring hospitalization. In other regions of the country, 25 similar incidents occurred, also leading to 20 hospitalizations.
Additionally, more than 300 cases of alcohol and food poisoning were recorded across Georgia, with over 120 individuals requiring hospitalization.
For comparison, New Year celebrations in Berlin resulted in 400 arrests due to fireworks-related incidents, and five people lost their lives. In Belgium, a series of accidents has prompted calls for a ban on the sale of fireworks across the European Union.
