On the eastern island of Karpathos, Greek authorities detained 124 migrants who were found traveling on unmarked speedboats.
According to AP, the coast guard discovered 58 migrants during an inspection near the island’s main port in the eastern Aegean Sea. Another 66 migrants were located in a remote area in the north of the island, with many of them apprehended on land. Additionally, a 24-year-old migrant was arrested on suspicion of possessing fake identification documents.
Meanwhile, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Greece illegally deported a woman to Turkey using the practice of “pushbacks” across the border, which it described as systematic.
Charities and human rights groups have repeatedly accused Greek authorities, particularly the coast guard and police, of unlawful actions. They claim migrants are often prevented from seeking asylum and are secretly returned to Turkish waters.
